Alex Gurney
(She/her/hers)
Clinical Herbalist
Alex Gurney is a clinical herbalist based in Victoria, BC, where she lives and practises on the unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking Peoples.
Drawing on herbal medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle practices rooted in both traditional and evidence-informed approaches, Alex works collaboratively with clients to create individualized health plans that honour each person’s capacity and goals while supporting the body’s innate wisdom to heal. She welcomes all bodies, identities, and health concerns, with particular interests in ADHD and neurodivergence, autoimmune conditions, and the interconnections between digestive, nervous system, immune, and hormonal health. She hopes to be a gentle guide, helping clients cultivate deeper, more sustainable relationships with their health. Alex’s own journey navigating chronic health challenges and her experiences as a queer and neurodivergent person further inform her approach to care and her commitment to fostering an inclusive, trauma-informed, neurodivergent- and queer-affirming practice.
Alex graduated summa cum laude from Pacific Rim College’s Diploma of Phytotherapy after completing 500+ hours of clinical training and 2,000 hours of study in traditional and Western herbal medicine and biomedical sciences. She is also completing her Diploma of Holistic Nutrition at Pacific Rim College and holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Concordia University, where she focused on environmental, food, healthcare, decolonial, and gender politics.
Her practice is grounded in the understanding that health and healing are relational, extending beyond the individual and shaped by the connections between our bodies, cultures, communities, and environments. Alex’s studies in anthropology, work as a chef and organic gardener, and reconnection with the herbal medicine traditions of her Ukrainian heritage have deepened her appreciation for these interconnections and for the knowledge carried through plants, generations, and relationships with the land. Her work is rooted in regenerative herbal medicine that honours these connections and is guided by a broader commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
Outside the clinic, Alex enjoys gardening, wandering forest trails, experimenting in the kitchen, painting, reading tarot, travelling, playing music and board games, and cuddling with her cats.
